Map Table PIU 700x700mm Restoration–The Top Planks

After smoothed the core surface, its time to mounting the 4mm top planks.

There are ten pieces of 4mm thick long pieces.

Three different diameter 32, 15, 8 mm holes has to be open by following the screws and cork positions.

Also cut 4mm thick discs from the 8 and 16mm round rods for covering the screw holes.

Very lucky to obtained the Titebond II Premium wood glue for the task, which is not too common here.

Put back the brass angles on four sides as border of the wood planks.

Also prepared some small press plates with screws for press down the the boards before the glue dry.

This top layer covered the new extension section became one solid piece in 694 x 694 x 18mm now.

Together with the 3mm brass angles rims it is back to PIU 700 x700mm again.

Next step is to sand smooth and to filling the gaps before painting.

I am not a carpenter and didn’t know that when the element changed the wood expend and shrink, later had to rebuilt this layer to give way for wood move.
