Luftwaffe 9th Falk Division Match Box Holder–Trench Art (2012)

Received my first trench art relic from Volgograd Russia, which took more than 6 weeks on air parcel to Hong Kong, sent out on 10 Dec but the Russia Custom Control detained it for three weeks in between and duly released, arrived HK on 20 Jan 2012 but the Chinese New Year holidays delayed further more.

It’s marked ‘Zusatzidg 10cm Nb. W’ at the narrow side and ‘RFI 39’ on the wider side and a Luftwaffe Eagle and ‘9 Flak Division’ had crafted on top of the ‘RFI 39’.

This ground dug relic was found at old Pitomnik airfield site; the last German hold airfield during the Stalingrad encirclement, and 9 Flak Division was attached to 6 Armee on July 1942, and finally destroyed in the Stalingrad pocket.

It was converted from a piece of fuse container cover of the 10cm Neble-Werfer ammunition, it is actually a trench art made by the Soldat of the 9 Flak Division.

RFI was a factory code of Aluminum manufacturer on the year 1939, which also appeared on many water bottles and other Aluminum products.
