Map Table PIU 700x700mm Restoration–The Painting and Final Assembling

The painting of the bottom side of the table is a challenge.

The new add on part has to be matching the old color.

It is not possible to mix the color, but to select from existing paint on the market.

Finally found a water base color named ‘Begonia wood’ matched the best.

A layer of black wash applied after fully dried made the new paint aged in similar tone with the rest of table.

Turned out to be quiet close as one piece.

Firt

                                          First attempt to paint the joint line.

                                         Mixed color to concealed the join line eventually. 

The top side had been painted three times.

First attempts was too thick and too red as wrong procedure.

Back to read the instruction video clip and tried again by small brush.

Diluted the water base paint and applied three layers over 12 hours, sand smooth before applied the fourth and final layer.

The thin coats clearly shows the wood texture and the cork pads and all details.

Didn’t aging this side, let it weathering naturally.

Love this finishing, took pics under shelter and direct sun light.

The last couple of pics was the failed attempted with darker effects.

The brass edges had been straighten and installed back to the the table, all four edges are perfectly aligned and smooth.

The old screw holes had been filled for reopen vertical holes, all 60 screws are sink deep to form a smooth edges.

The table is back to 700 x 700mm now.
